Ridgway Rifle Club Junior Shooting Team practicing at the Ridgway Rifle Club Indoor Range at the main Club House on Grant Road.
Members of this team are Mitchell Gennecro, Aaron Holsopple, Emily Holsopple, Cynthia Jackson, Mikayla Jackson, Peter Timashenka, Doug Urmann, Jack Urmann, and Jimmy Wright.
The Junior Team competes in many air rifle and small bore position shooting matches. They use precision .177 caliber air rifles made by Feinwerkbau and Walther. In small bore competition they use Anschutz rifles. Throughout the winter months they practice at the 50 foot indoor range three days a week. They also compete in NRA and USA Shooting sanctioned matches along with various postal matches sponsored by the American Legion and the Army Marksmanship Unit.
This past year they took part in the Palmyra Invitational, PA Junior Olympic Regional Championships, PA State 3 Position & 4 Position Small Bore Championships, PA State 3 Position Air Championships, NRA Junior Sectionals in 3 Position Air, and 3 Position & 4 Position Small Bore. As you can see they are a very busy group.
The team placed 7th out of 33 Junior teams at Palmyra, 2nd at the PA State 3 Position Air Match, 12th out of 69 teams in the AMU Postal and 7th out of 58 teams in the American Legion Postal Tournament. Two members of the team, Emily and Aaron Holsopple, qualified for the Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs. Aaron also qualified 7th for the top 15 in the Legion Individual match, earning a trip to the Olympic Training Center for a four match championship in August.
The team will soon be competing in the Junior Olympic 3 Position Air Qualifier to try and earn an invitation to the National Match in July held in Alabama. Members of the team will also be traveling to Camp Perry for the NRA Outdoor Nationals for 3 Position Small Bore and are waiting to see if they will be invited to Fort Benning, Georgia for the AMU National Match.
